In order to get the most benefit out of the Root Cause Analysis plugin it needs access to historical workflow transition data for each identified Root Cause Issue. For JIRA instances that start fresh with the Root Cause Analysis plugin installed from the very beginning this is a non-issue, however many of our users will have been using JIRA for years and will have already accumulated a whole slew of existing issues sitting in various workflow statuses.

With this hurdle in mind, we've built-in a process to allow JIRA to retroactively obtain this information by analyzing the JIRA change history. The basic mechanics involve hunting down transitions that have the Root Cause Analysis workflow post functions in place and grabbing the required data for future use within the Root Cause Analysis plugin. For this process to work properly, ensure that your Root Cause Analysis Resolver Saver and Root Cause Analysis Closer Saver workflow post functions are setup appropriately for all workflows.
