Since JIRA can be extensively customized based on the way different organizations use the software, there may be instances where it doesn't make sense to display certain defect factors for a Root Cause Analysis.

The Root Cause Analysis plugin provides the ability to explicitly define which Defect Factors you can attribute to Root Cause Issues.

All JIRA Defect Factors are enabled for Root Cause Analysis by default. Any newly created custom Defect Factors will also be enabled by default.

To configure the applicable Defect Factors for Root Cause Analysis:

  1. Log in as a user with the JIRA Administrators global permission.
  2. Click on the JIRA Administration cog  and select the Add-ons menu item
  3. Click on the Root Cause Analysis link in the left hand navigation menu.
  4. Click on the Defect Factors button.

  5. Defect Factors can be Enabled and Disabled. Select an individual Defect Factor or a group (Shift or Ctrl) of Defect Factors to disable Root Cause Analysis for and then click Disable Selected Defect Factors button.

  6. Defect Factors can be added. Click Add and enter in a name of a defect factor to be added.

  7. Defect Factors can be permanently removed. Select an individual Defect Factor or a group (Shift or Ctrl) of Defect Factors to remove and then click the Remove button.
  8. The updated icon will appear when the Defect Factor configuration has been successfully updated.
