Installation

  1. Log in as a JIRA Administrator 
  2. Click on the JIRA Administration cog  and select the Add-ons menu item.
  3. Under the Atlassian Marketplace section, click on Find New Add-ons.
  4. Enter Filtered Burndown Report in the textbox labelled with Search the Marketplace.
  5. Click on the Install button to install the plugin.
  6. Wait for the installation process to complete and click on the Close button.

    Alternatively, type Avant in the Search the Marketplace textbox to display a variety of quality plugins to suit your company's needs.

 

Locating the Filtered Burndown Report

  1. Log into JIRA.
  2. From the Projects drop-down menu in the JIRA top-level menu bar, select the project you wish to report on. If you plan to change to use a filter instead of a project select any project.
  3. You should now be in the project Activity page.

  4. Click on the Reports link on the left hand navigation menu. You will be presented with a page listing the available reports.

  5. Click on the Filtered Burndown Report link found under the Issue Analysis category.


 

Filtered Burndown Report Configuration

The configuration screen for the Filtered Burndown Report offers you the flexibility to report on the JIRA issues you need.

Here is brief description of the report configuration options:

Project or Custom Filter

A required configuration option which provides the ability to to generate a report of the issues within a particular project or a custom saved filter.

Clicking on the Change Filter or Project link will allow you to select another project or select a filter from your list of favourite filters, popular filters, or a filter returned by searching all available filters.

Project or Filter DescriptionAn optional configuration field which provides the ability to add a description of the selected project or filter to the chart.
Start DateA required configuration option which must be filled in to generate the report. Use the date picker  to select the date you want to start reporting on (the date is inclusive).
End Date

A required configuration option which must be filled in to generate the report. Use the date picker  to select the date you want to stop reporting on (the date is inclusive).

 

Filtered Burndown Report Content

Once you have made all of your configuration choices and have clicked the Next button, the report will generate.


You can always change your filter criteria by clicking on the Configure button.

Use the chart options located on the right side of the chart to show additional information.


Here is a brief explanation of the different lines that can be displayed on the chart and how they are generated.

Remaining Work

Displays the total number of hours that are remaining.

Logged WorkDisplays the total number of hours that have been logged.
Original EstimateDisplays the total original estimates on all issues. This value increases when new issues have been added or when the original estimate of an issue has been increased. Likewise, this value decreases when the original estimate of an issue has been decreased.
Daily Team EffortDisplays the number of hours logged that day. This value is reset to 0 at the start of each day.
Required Daily BurndownDisplays the number of hours that need to be logged that day to be on target by the report end date. This is equal to the remaining work at the start of the day divided by the number of remaining workdays. A workday is any day between Monday thru Friday.
Estimate AccuracyDisplays how well issues are being estimated. This line will be flat if issues are being estimated correctly. The estimate accuracy line will trend downwards if issues are being overestimated and will trend upwards if issues are being underestimated. This value is equal to the sum of logged work and remaining work.
Guideline

Displays the ideal burndown. This value is calculated using the remaining work and the number of workdays. A workday is any day between Monday thru Friday.
